Diving in Mondsee

Dive with us in the fascinating underwater world...

The Facts

Entering point: - Kreuzstein
- Pacherwandl
- Kienbergwand 1
- Kienbergwand 2
- Harnischwand
Diving places: KREUZSTEIN: The clearly defined great mass of rock with a mounted cross is to be found directly on the bank of the Mondsee near the Kienbergwand national road between Unterach am Attersee and Scharfling. There are no exiting rock faces to be found but there are very interesting rock and root formations. In Summer and Autumn this area is heavily overgrown and you sometimes find yourself diving in the middle of shoals of fish. A night diving tour at Kreuzstein can be a very special experience.

PACHERWANDL FACE
From Mondsee you drive in direction St. Gilgen: in Scharfling you take a left turn and continue in the direction of the tunnel. There is an interesting, 10-15m-high rock face. The shallow area features interesting vegetation and rootstocks.

KIENBERGWAND: The rock tunnels between Scharfling and Unterach am Attersee are indeed impressive for every land visitor to Mondsee. Within the tunnels the Kienbergwand continues to drop to the depths of just over 30 meters. Apart from the interesting rock faces there are also a few car wrecks, whole trees, that have fallen from the mountain into the lake and an impressive overhanging rock at 17 m.

HARNISCHWAND: Drive in the direction of Wolfgangsee from Mondsee along the B154, shortly after Plomberg a high rising, slippery rock face stands out immediately next to the road. The wall continues into the great depths of Mondsee and offers the proficient diver an imposing and, owing to the darkness, an often mystical diving experience.

The Mondsee is central in the chain of lakes Irrsee - Mondsee – Attersee, located immediately on the border between Upper Austria and Salzburg. Between Scharfling and Plomberg among other areas, on the west bank of the lake beautiful rock formations and numerous possibilities to enter the water are to be found. In Summer Mondsee offers pleasant bathing temperatures and a thick belt of vegetation grows up on the banks.

Fish: Pike, bream, carp
