Diving in Hallstättersee

Water is the source of life and the past begins under water – experience the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site of Hallstatt.

The Facts

Entering point: The launching sites are, or were marked specially for divers by the ‘ARGE Diving’.
Diving places: Steeg to Öfen, Gossaumühle, Pfaffenpfühl, Zauner, Kessel bathing area, Landbettler bathing area

Of particular interest: Throughout the whole year in the area of the source visibility ranges from a possible 5 to 20 m. In front of the boat mooring at Lerchenbach an American Jeep lies 42 m below the water surface. Numerous car wrecks, steep faces and the ‘Mun-Halde’ are highlights.

Forbidden area: Along the lakeside road diving is prohibited all year round, Steeg (A run off of the Lake) has seasonal limitations, from Pfaffenpfühl to Hundsort.

The Hallstatt Lake is certainly one of the classic stretches of water for diving in the Salzkammergut and together with its impressive surroundings is certainly worth a holiday visit or an excursion. The water, relatively full with fish however frequently dark, lends itself, together with the occasionally lush vegetation, a unique elegance.

In cold winters the lake freezes up completely, which has led to much ice diving activity in front of the diving school fence.
