The "Dachstein Extreme 2010" will take place on
Four athletes complete the four different disciplines in this competition. Whichever team comes out "top" has the best chances of winning. Whether your sport is paragliding, mountain running, mountain biking or swimmimg, you and your team will be pushed to the absolute limits throughout the contest. The event gets underway on the Gjaidalm at 1738 metres above sea level !
THE EVENTS
The first challenge is the paragliding. Competitors run from the Gjaidalm up to the start line on the Krippenstein. Here the event is officially opened, and competitors "fly" down to the events area in Obertraun.
Then it's the runners' turn. The route is along the main road to the "Kessel" bathing area before the ascent to the Hirschau-Alm. This is one of the most crucial parts of the contest as the athletes conquer the Seewand via ferrata - one of the longest in the Alps during their ascent to the Gjaidalm. Now it is over to the mountain bikers.
After a short section for part of which bikes must be carried, cyclists must conquer their nerves and race down the ski slope at top speed. Just as extreme as the rock climb, this event is not for the faint-hearted as the athletes tackle the very long and very steep descent to the valley!
Finally it is the turn of the swimmers. There is a section of the course which must be run, followed by a short swimming section. Then the swimmers must battle against their nerves as they take the 10 metre plunge from the "Werflinger Wand" into Lake Hallstatt. Athletes now swim over to the Obertraun bathing area and finish their race by running to the bathing area in Obertraun where they will cross the finish line.
Last year 17 teams started! The "BSG Bosch" team from Salzburg were champions. Which team will be "Kings of the Dachstein 2010"??? We will find out on August 15th ...
